Client: St Patrick’s Festival
The St Patrick’s Festival has become so big in international terms that it now has a full-time dedicated organisation, under the authority of Dublin City Council. What used to be a one-day event is now in Dublin a week-long celebration of all things Irish, drawing huge numbers of tourists from around the world.
At the centre of the celebrations, however, is still the Dublin parade, every March 17th, with annual crowds of up to 500,000 people. With hundreds of floats, groups, bands, and street performers, this is a huge logistical challenge to organise while trying to keep a city running.
Works
CSS Signs have worked with the festival organisers for several years to help with this challenge. We have mainly supplied and delivered corriboard signs and pvc banners for the following purposes:
- Advance warning signs for road closures and diversions (usually a week ahead)
- Road closure notices
- Diversions for vehicular and pedestrian traffic
- Parade information signs for the public
- Bands and parade group starting points, end points, etc
- Notices for public order and crowd control
For ease of installation we usually eyelet all signs and banners. Because of the high pressure nature of such large events, there are often last minute changes, and we have been known to deliver batches of sign up to the early hours on parade day.
